Live music venue in Baton Rouge, Louisiana Live music from touring acts & other events presented in a converted art deco film theater near LSU. In 1937, The Varsity first opened its doors. During this time until the late 1980s, we operated under a variety of different roles in the film theatre industry, and was one of the most thriving establishments in the Northgate area. In 1988, The Varsity had to shut our doors temporarily only to be reopened again back in 1990 as a live music venue. Ever since then, the music hasn’t stopped.
