Three Caves is located within Land Trust of North Alabama's Monte Sano Nature Preserve (open dawn-dusk). A former limestone quarry, Three Caves is located just two miles from downtown Huntsville and gets its name from the three large mine openings. Donated to the Land Trust in 1989, it now offers a truly unique outdoor venue for Land Trust fundraising events. Events are held in the "bowl" outside the mine's openings. The limestone rock walls provide an unforgettable backdrop. Cave tours are not available and Three Caves is closed to the public except during special events, due to safety concerns resulting from falling rock inside the former mine. Three Caves Loop Trail circles the perimeter of the mine offering hikers a view down below.
