"In 2006, we founded Open Space with the vision of providing a place where Vashon could gather in large numbers to celebrate the unbreakable bond between arts and community. Wary of the traditional not-for-profit system, we set out on the path of forging a new business model: a combination of private enterprise, grown from philanthropic investment, to serve the Vashon community. We have sought to build, equip and sustain our endeavor, not to make a profit. We are a unique community center—unusually configured and flexible, independent from traditional organized models, and committed to our place in the Vashon and regional community.
