Live music venue Mission: To promote the art and education of jazz in our community. Merrimans' Playhouse is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) arts and educational organization. Founded by Stephen Merriman and Mary Merriman, they began presenting a Jazz Performance Series in December of 2006 to create an opportunity to experience the creative jazz process. It is set up for the artists to present their work as a concert performance in an intimate room conducive to deep listening. Merrimans’ Playhouse brings regional, national, and international professional touring jazz artists to South Bend with about 100 concerts per year. Its outreach to the community through collaborations remains a hallmark of its work to promote jazz in northern Indiana.
