Venue Information

City or town hall. Live Events & Performance Center. First settlement in Nevada. Established in 1851. In June of 1850, H.S. Beatie and his party camped along a fast flowing stream about a mile north of what would become Genoa. While there, they learned from people passing through the area that there was a “rush” of placer miners expected to pass through the area on their way to Sutter’s Mill in California. H.S. Beatie and company returned to Salt Lake City, Utah, for supplies and able men to man the trading post. In the spring of 1851, Colonel John Reese, Enoch Reese, H.S. Beatie and several others established a trading post on the spot where the Mormon Station Historic State Park is located today, thereby establishing Nevada’s first settlement. In 1854, Judge Orson Hyde renamed Mormon Station as Genoa.
