Although most people love us for our delicious sandwiches, soups and salads, many don’t know that originally, Cahuenga General Store didn’t serve food at all!
The store was created in 1995 with the idea of bringing something different to North Hollywood. Owner Anita Hallenbeck took over a small, modest office building on Cahuenga Blvd. one block south of Burbank. At the time, there was no “NoHo,” there was no “Arts District,” and the area was mainly industrial – the perfect place for something new a fresh. Over the next several months, the building was renovated extensively and themed as an old-time general store. Shortly after, the store opened as Cinema Crates – a prop-rental house specializing in vintage crates, barrels and various other props or goods that one might have found at an old general store.
