Performing arts theater in Boone, North Carolina The Appalachian Theatre of the High Country (ATHC) operates the historic Appalachian Theatre, located in the heart of downtown Boone, North Carolina. Once a gorgeous, circa 1938 Art Deco movie house, the building closed in 2007 and was later gutted. Today, the ATHC is open for business after a $10 million historic renovation that restored many of its distinctive Art Deco features and launched a new performance venue that hosts live music, digital-projection films, theatrical productions, and dance performances. A large community room space is available for meetings and functions.
