The story revolves around an impressionable Cady Heron, who grew up on the African Savanna and was completely clueless as to the rules of her new jungle. After homeschooling, she moves to suburban Illinois and attends a high school that has a lot in common with the predator and prey scenes of the savanna.

The show establishes a link between the dangers and wonders of life in Africa with life in a typical American high school. The choreography includes a powerful routine in the high school cafeteria.
