GUYS & DOLLS
Guys and Dolls is a romantic musical about a high-rolling gambler and a puritanical missionary. It has music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and is based on the book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. The story is a musical tale of two New York gamblers betting on love despite all the odds. It follows the efforts of compulsive New York gambler, Nathan Detroit, to win a bet before police can stop him.
The show premiered on Broadway in 1950 with 1,200 performances and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. Soon after a 1955 film adaptation starring Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra, and Vivian Blaine was made in addition to several Broadway and London revivals.
Guys & Dolls is based on the short stories “The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown” and “Blood Pressure” by Damon Runyon and also borrows characters and plot elements from other Runyon stories.
The musical was selected as the winner of the 1951 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It also includes some amazing songs including “Luck Be a Lady” and “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat,” and promises to thrill the fans like never before.
