The Rose Tattoo is a play by Tennessee Williams. A film adaptation starring Marisa Tomei was released in 1955. The play tells the story of an Italian-American widow in Mississippi as the main character in Trip Cullman’s maddeningly uneven production. She became inconsolable after the death of her husband and allowed herself to withdraw from the world and expects her daughter to do the same.

The original Broadway play opened in February 1951, starring original characters Maureen Stapleton, Phyllis Love, and Eli Wallach. The show premiered at the Martin Beck Theatre with a total of 306 performances. The play got revived in 1966 for which it received a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for Maria Tucci’s performance (who replace Phyllis Love).
